Bald Eagle Tracking Project - Week 8

During week #8, two of the immature bald eagles moved around the area while the other two stayed where they were the previous week. Blue stayed in the same area of southern New Jersey and Green stayed in the Parkers Creek area of Calvert County. Red returned to Maryland from its brief visit to Pennsylvania. She moved back and spent most of the week along the Susquehanna River. On July 21, Red was back at Aberdeen Proving Ground where she has spent the majority of her time since being released in May.

Yellow remained in Virginia again this week. She started the week along the Rappahannock River, then moved south to the York River area. By the end of the week, Yellow had moved to the James River southeast of Richmond. The James River is a major concentration area for eagles in the Chesapeake Bay area. The preceeding text was provided by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

Please visit our Eagle Map Gallery to see other maps of the eagle movements. The gallery contains maps of the eagle movements plotted on shaded relief maps that show local topography as well as eagle movements shown on a satellite image of the bay region which illustrates the types of landcover the eagles are living near.

With each update, new locations may not be available for each of the four birds. To conserve battery power and reduce satellite communications costs the transmitters are not on continuously.
