GIS, satellite telemetry, and remote sensing technologies are vital to the cultural, economic, and political development of this country, and to the management and conservation of our natural resources. GIS impacts the daily lives of millions of people, and is a critical tool in a wide range of fields. In the conservation of biodiversity, this powerful tool has recently been coupled with satellite tracking of threatened and endangered species. Satellite tracking of wildlife is unlocking the mysteries of many species’ natural histories, such as the timing of migration events, how species navigate, where they go, and what types of habitats they need to survive. Research results can thus play an ever-increasing role in understanding wildlife and managing their populations and related habitats. EOF will bring these powerful tools into the classroom and home, introducing students to cutting-edge research techniques.
